We know that establishing a common language about innovation is vital to embedding it in your organisation. Because you can customise Solverboard to suit your processes, it's up to you what language you use to describe the innovation lifecycle.
You can however simply choose to use the terms we've set out, so here's a quick rundown of the words we use as an idea progresses all the way to becoming a fully realised innovation.
We talk about innovation entities here at Solverboard, which move through various stages as they progress. This process of progress is called Graduation.
(However, we know that innovation isn't always linear! You can create a test, option or project at any time using what we call Innovation Pathways).
- Initially, an idea is created and tagged to the organisational goals set on Solverboard.
- Multiple similar ideas can be grouped into a cluster.
- An idea chosen for exploration and testing graduates to become a test.
- A hypothesis is your overarching prediction for the test phase
- Assumptions give more detail about what you're assuming to be true (or false) during the testing phase
- Experiments can provide more detail into what you're hoping to do in order to prove or disprove the assumptions and therefore, the hypothesis
- Lessons (or lessons learned) can help you to catalogue any positive or negative learnings
- A test that is validated as viable graduates to an option.
- An option selected to take to market graduates to a project.
Within our Projects module, there are a number of terms which may or may not be familiar to you, including Workpackages, WorkItems and LinkItems. You can read more about these within our Projects help section.
On the subject of people, your Solvers are your organisation's idea creators. We also use a few terms that will be familiar to you already, such as Innovation Manager, Project Manager and Platform Manager. The latter of which is your organisation's admin, responsible for inviting users and setting preferences within your platform.
